Our innovation story will continue over this evening at the official CES Pre-Show Keynote. You’ll hear from LG’s President & CTO Dr. I.P. Let’s take an example of LG V40 ThinQ smartphone –honored with the Best of Innovation Award for this CES 2019. With its excellent 5 camera lens, the AI Cam recognizes object of your shooting and provides perfect picture automatically. What would be the next move? No wonder that the evolution definitely will come along with 5G. As one of the key USA carrier’s recent announcement, 5G smartphone will be the game changer and LG is right at the spot to bring to market a 5G experience ahead of time. .
But 5G is not only about mobile communication. Its implication is enormously expandable toward many AI devices that we talk today. A key partner on this 5G journey has been Qualcomm. Together with LG, they have been leading advancements in mobile connectivity, defining how smartphones work and communicate. In both opening speech and Qualcomm’s speech, the major topic of the sessions needs to be AI.

This morning, I’ll tell you how LG is further improving a seamless AI experience to make it sensible in YOUR everyday life.
We introduced LG ‘ThinQ’ – our AI devices encompassing LG Mobile, Home Entertainment and Home Appliance products– here at CES 2018. Since then, we have worked on the promise of AI device to understand users, to evolve and to apply that learning to assist for a better life. Because we believe that ultimate goal of LG’s AI is not just device’s operation by voice command, but device’s proactive recommendation of solution based on its own understanding of individual users and usage circumstances.
This year I am pleased to announce that intelligent AI device, LG ThinQ will suggest a sensible solution based on its own understanding of users unlike any conventional AI devices which just operates on what you ask them to do. This evolvement of LG ThinQ delivers two major benefits : 1) Sensible recommendation based on contextual understanding of users and 2) Proactive care for maintaining optimal performance of devices.

As seen in the video, LG ThinQ devices can proactively provide user-centric solution because they are able to develop a deeper understanding of user behavior, preferences and the overall environment where users belong. That’s where “Lifestyle Data” data comes in. For example, how much electricity is used every month, what type of TV shows you watch, how often you do laundry and what kinds of things you wash, and how often you clean your house. This data, combined with household environmental information like temperature, humidity and air quality, and external information like weather and traffic, helps LG ThinQ contextually understand you. With this, LG ThinQ is able to propose a better solution for the user’s specific circumstance while the conventional AI devices only execute your order regardless of context.
Now the benefits of LG ThinQ product are not limited to individual devices delivering a single service. It also includes collaboration and coordination among multiple devices. Let’s talk about a more for futuristic scenario. Imagine you want to start cleaning with the CordZero Stick Vacuum and turn the power on, LG ThinQ, knowing that cleaning has started, can suggest divided cleaning duties with the LG CordZero Robotic Vacuum.

Use Case 2) Proactive care for optimal performance

Another benefits of LG ThinQ evolvement is advanced service care for your appliances. In 2019, we’ll launch LG ProActive Customer Care – a service that use artificial intelligence to deliver the most advanced, personalized customer service in the industry.
With it, LG can immediately alert LG appliance owners to potential service issues before they happen. It can also expedite repairs if they’re needed, and even offer useful maintenance tips – saving users time and money and keeping their appliances performing their best.
For example, if an error is detected in the appliance whether it’s a decrease in refrigerator cooling performance, reduced air flow in a dryer vent or over-sudsing in the washer caused by too much detergent, LG ProActive Customer Care will send you an alert. It will also provide tips for how the user can solve the issue – oftentimes with solutions that can avoid the hassle of scheduling a service call.
And ProActive Customer Care will even help with routine maintenance: For example, if it’s time to replace the water filter in the fridge, the refrigerator will not only alert you, but it also will help you purchase the filter without even having to ask. When it’s time order more dish or laundry detergent, LG ThinQ knows and connects seamlessly with Amazon Dash Replenishment to automatically reorder your supply so you never run out of essentials. Here’s another example:
– David: Looks like I just got a notification that my laundry is finished.
(Check the notification through G7 or V40 smartphone. Make this comment and open the door of the washer)

– LG ThinQ: (from the washer speaker): TUB CLEAN is a maintenance routine that is recommended to keep your washer clean as new. Would you like to run it now??
– David: Not right now, but please remind me later.

[Tim] TV is about picture quality. And LG’s OLED TVs have continually earned
global acclaim by leading experts for their unrivaled picture performance. The numerous awards we received during the past year are testament to this.
[Tim] Since introducing OLED to the world in 2013, LG has continuously improved the technology, developed new functionality, new form factors and expanded OLED screen sizes, to offer consumers the greatest range of premium televisions.
[Tim] This year, we are ready to launch the largest OLED TV yet, featuring 88-inches of gorgeous screen real estate.
Introducing LG’s first <8K logo slide> 8K OLED TV!
[Unveil 8K] – Turntable rotates – 8K facing the public
[Tim] Integrating best of the company’s expertise in OLED’s pixel dimming control technology, LG’s 8K OLED TV features over 33 million self-emitting pixels.
[Tim] With pixels sizes being smaller as a result of increased resolution, it is crucial that each pixel, individually, delivers complete information to create accurate overall picture resolution. OLED’s self-emissive technology is capable of doing just that.
[Tim] This is why 8K OLED can render the unmatched pure black, without any light leakage, realistic colors and impressive contrast ratio that define OLED TV’s iconic picture quality!

[Tim] This astounding 8K resolution combines with the company’s most powerful processor yet, the alpha 9 Gen 2
to deliver a dramatic impact to the key TV elements: picture and sound and produce awe-inspiring scenes!
[Tim] This is possible thanks to two main AI capabilities. Content enhancement using deep learning technology. And content optimization, made possible by ambient recognition.
As mentioned earlier, Ambient recognition capabilities allow for content enhancement, in accordance to different ambient lighting conditions.
This means the TV will react to the environment, by automatically adjusting the screen’s brightness levels. The α9 Gen 2 processor uses the TV’s ambient light sensor to measure light levels to not only change the brightness, but also adjust the tone mapping curve.
This capability of the processor further refines HDR content, including Dolby Vision, and this lets viewers enjoy the content even the darkest scenes, with incredible contrast and detail, even if watched in a brighter room.
[Tim] Users can also adjust sound settings to suit room conditions or let their LG TV intelligently set the perfect levels based on its positioning. With just one touch on the Magic remote – LG’s TVs can automatically offer optimized sound equilization by recognizing TV’s placement in the room.

[Tim] Last year, we introduced our AI voice recognition capabilities into the TV category .
[Tim] Building on our webOS based open platform, we announced that (click) the Google Assistant was built into our 2018 TVs, to bring a totally new user experience. <ThinQ–GA slide>
[Tim] The Google Assistant is also incorporated in this year’s lineup, delivering a simplified, convenient user experience that makes it easy to manage daily tasks, find answers and control compatible smart home devices.
[Tim] The Google Assistant is now compatible with an increasing number of devices: more than 1,000 brands across 10,000 devices which helps strengthen the streamlined experience offered by LG TVs. What’s more, LG’s 2019 TVs with the Google Assistant will be available in more countries and languages.
[Tim] This year we’re excited to announce that we have expanded our AI partnerships even further to include Amazon Alexa to our 2019 TVs with ThinQ AI. But, let’s take a look at what this means for real users!

[Tim] As you saw in the video, with newly added Amazon Alexa on LG’s 2019 TVs, users will have a much easier shopping experience, they can set up their ideal Alexa Routine, enjoy an Alexa experience when they play music or check the weather. They can also manage smart home devices or access thousands of skills such the Food Network to find great recipes or Kayak to book a hotel.
[Tim] Amazon Alexa is compatible with more than 3,500 brands across 20,000 devices which helps strengthen the streamlined experience.
Combined, the Google Assistant and Alexa users cover 84 percent of the market. This means LG TV users will enjoy an impressively expansive experience, without the need to change the smart device they’re already using, or the need to use several devices.
[Tim] Beside these popular services, LG’s 2019 TVs with LG’s proprietary ThinQ AI provide conversational voice recognition, making it easier to find content to watch or control the TV.
[Tim] Now, you don’t have to keep making repetitive commands to get to the exact information you need. The TV can understand context, allowing more complex requests. This service will be available in over 140 countries.
[Tim] But wait….there’s more! Many of our customers also have Apple devices so LG has been working with Apple to also create a streamlined Apple user experience on their LG TVs. So I’m pleased to announce we’re adding…
[Tim] Apple AirPlay on our 2019 TVs! We’re excited to be one of Apple’s first TV partners for AirPlay Video. This will help users easily share what they’re watching on their favorite streaming apps to our TVs. And it’s easy to share much more
[Tim] We are also adopting AirPlay Audio and HomeKit support, to simplify how Apple devices work with LG TVs
[Tim] And with LG’s 2019 TVs supporting both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies, the adoption of Airplay 2 will offer users first rate content to enjoy in 2019, with easier access to the largest selection of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos titles. We are confident this collaboration will deliver an outstanding user experience – a goal that unites both LG and Apple [APPLE SESSION CLOSES]
[Tim] Another new feature this year is the intuitive Home Dashboard which makes it easy to control a wide variety of smart home devices directly from the TV and will also be helpful when you misplace your air conditioning remote!
[Tim] LG’s entire 2019 lineup of OLED TVs will include ThinQ AI and all of these capabilities!

[Tim] We’ll also roll out a new lineup of premium LCD with a new name: Nano Cell TV. Our Nano Cell TVs featuring Nano Color, Nano Accuracy and Nano Bezel and also include AI-enhanced picture and sound, underpinned by our deep learning algorithm, as well as the convenience and intelligence of ThinQ with the built in Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and new Apple compatibility. The lineup will include the 8K SM99 series, powered by the Alpha 9 Gen 2 processor.

[David] In Zero view, the TV’s screen disappears completely from view, ‘hiding’ within the body.

[David] Even when the screen is retracted, users can enjoy a premium audio experience when listening to music or other audio content. The body cleverly integrates a 4.2-channel, 100W front-firing Dolby Atmos sound.
