할리우드 스타들 LG 시네마 3D TV에 반한 까닭은?

안녕하세요. 저는 LG전자 미국법인의 홍보담당 부사장을 맡고 있는 존 테일러(John I. Taylor)입니다. 오늘은 지난 2월 26일 LG전자가 차세대 독립영화 감독 양성을 목적으로 독립영화협회 FIND(Film Independent)와 공동으로 조성한 기금행사에 참석한 뒷이야기를 들려드리도록 하겠습니다.

오스카 시상식 전날, LG전자와 LG 디스플레이가 공동으로 개발한 차세대 3D 기술로 무장한 시네마 3D TV가 미국 캘리포니아 로스엔젤레스 산타모니카 해변 근처에서 열린 독립 영화 시상식에서 소개되어 배우들의 찬사를 받았습니다. LG 시네마 3D TV는 2011 인디펜던트 스피릿 어워드(Independent Spirit Awards)에서 여러 배우들뿐 아니라 미국 유명 TV 프로그램인 액세스 할리우드(Access Hollywood)의 관심을 받았는데요, 이 자리에 참석하면서 저는 LG 시네마 3D TV 기술력이 세계적 수준으로 급부상했음을 실감할 수 있었습니다.

2월 26일 토요일, 벤 스틸러, 사무엘 L 잭슨, 니콜 키드먼, 제이미 폭스, 제인 린치 등은 스피릿 어워드의 블루 카펫 위에서 LG 시네마 3D 안경을 쓰고 LG 시네마 3D 기술을 최초로 체험해 본 할리우드 스타가 되었습니다. 이 행사에는 LG 전자 미국법인 박석원 부사장(Wayne Park)을 비롯해 LG 전자 및 LG 디스플레이의 임원진이 참석해 미국 소비자 3명 중 1명이 선호하는 뛰어난 3D 기술을 주요 사업자 및 배우들에게 소개했다.

LG 시네마 3D TV 전용 라운지에서 직접 체험

미국 독립영화협회 필름 인디펜던트(Film Independent)의 대표적인 프로그램인 프로젝트: 인볼브(Project: Involve)에서 기금을 조성하기 위해 모인 시상자 및 수상자들이 LG의 3D 기술에 높은 관심을 보였습니다. 차세대 영화 제작자들이 끊임없이 진화하는 차세대 기술을 잘 이해할 수 있도록 LG 3D 펠로십(LG 3D Fellowship) 과정도 개설되었구요. 또한 시상식에서는 특별 제작한 2분 가량의 단편 3D 영상물이 상영되어 천 4백 명이 넘는 참석자들이 관람했으며, 독립 영화 채널에도 방영되었습니다. LG 시네마 3D의 공식 시상자 전용 라운지에는 많은 스타와 VIP들이 LG 시네마 3D TV를 일반 3D TV와 직접 비교 체험할 수 있는 자리가 마련되어 뜨거운 호응을 얻었습니다.

산드라 오가 진행을 맡아 스피릿 어워드의 블루 카펫에서 기부 행사를 이끌었습니다. 블루 카펫의 오프닝 행사를 필두로, 안토니 맥키, 레인 윌슨, 아론 에크하트, 마크 러팔로, 케리 워싱턴 등 여러 할리우드 스타들이 시상식장 입구에서 기부 행사를 이어갔습니다. LG전자도 LG 시네마 3D HDTV를 체험한 모든 할리우드 스타를 대표해 “LG 시네마 3D/필름 인디펜던트 펠로십”과 “프로젝트: 인볼브”에 12만 5천 달러를 기부하기도 했습니다.

시상식 종료 후에 있었던 스피릿 어워드 보터 뷰잉 파티(Voter Viewing Party)에는 오스카 2회 수상자인 힐러리 스웽크와 각종 작품에 주연으로 출연한 제라드 버틀러가 참석했는데요, 이번 스피릿 어워드를 통해 LG 시네마 3D 기술을 북미 시장에 공식적으로 선보일 수 있었습니다. 가볍고 편리하며 저렴한 가격의 안경을 착용해 3D 영화관 수준의 영상을 제공하고 선명하고 밝은 이미지와 넓은 시야각을 구현하는 LG Cinema 3D TV의 우수함이 증명된 것이죠. 3D TV 역사에 한 획을 그을 수 있도록 LG전자를 지원해준 LG 디스플레이에 감사를 표하고 싶습니다.

LG Cinema 3D Technology Wows Hollywood Celebrities

On the eve of the Oscars®, LG Electronics and sister company LG Display launched the next generation 3D TV technology, LG Cinema 3D, at the star-studded awards ceremony honoring independent films on the Santa Monica beach near Los Angeles, California USA. From back-stage celebrity interactions with LG Cinema 3D to media integration with the famous Access Hollywood television show, the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards was an incredible event that positioned LG as the leader in the emerging 3D TV category.

Hollywood celebrities including Ben Stiller, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicole Kidman, Jamie Fox and Jane Lynch were among the first to experience LG Cinema 3D as they wore custom LG Cinema 3D eyewear on the Spirit Awards Blue Carpet Saturday, February 26.. Senior executives from LG Electronics and LG Display in Korea, joined LG Electronics USA CEO Wayne Park to host top U.S. retailers and show the celebrities the amazing Cinema 3D experience, preferred three-to-one by American consumers.

It was exciting to see the stars’ reaction to our 3D technology as nominees and presenters “Tuned in for Charity” on the Blue Carpet, to support Project:Involve, Film Independent’s signature diversity program. A new LG 3D Fellowship was established to educate the next generation of filmmakers about the ever-evolving technology. More than 1,400 attendees viewed a specially-produced two-minute 3D short during the awards program, which was broadcast on the Independent Film Channel. Backstage in the Official LG Cinema 3D Presenter Gift Lounge, celebrities and VIPs experienced the differences between LG Cinema 3D and conventional 3D in a head-to-head viewing.

Celebrity guest host Sandra Oh kicked off the event and led the charity building efforts on the Spirit Awards’ Arrivals Carpet. Following the opening of the Arrivals Carpet, a host of celebrities including Anthony Mackie, Rainn Wilson, Aaron Eckhart, Mark Ruffalo and Kerry Washington “Tuned in for Charity” on the Arrivals Platform. On behalf of all the celebrities who interacted with new LG Cinema 3D HDTV, LG donated US$125,000 to the “LG Cinema 3D/Film Independent Fellowship” and Project:Involve.

Following the ceremony, two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and leading man Gerard Butler joined us at the LG-sponsored Voter Viewing Party for the Spirit Awards. Marking the official launch of LG Cinema 3D technology in North America, the Spirit Awards showed how LG Cinema 3D recreates the 3D movie theater viewing experience with lightweight, comfortable and reasonably priced eyewear, and delivers crisp bright images and a wide viewing angle. Many thanks to LG Display for their support of LG Electronics on this important milestone in 3D television history.
