아침 식사를 마친 후에는 천안문 광장으로 향합니다. 예전에 ‘승천문’이라고도 불렸던 천안문은 1417년 세워진 자금성의 정문으로, 현재 천안문 광장은 세계에서 가장 큰 광장 중 하나로 손꼽히죠. 천안문을 지나면 자금성에 다다르게 되는데, 자금성은 명나라와 청나라 시절 하늘 아래 가장 존귀한 존재라 불리던 중국의 황제가 기거하던 곳이랍니다.

천안문과 자금성을 둘러본 후에는 북경오리구이 전문점을 찾아가보세요. 베이징을 찾는 관광객들이 반드시 맛봐야 할 음식 중 하나인 북경오리구이는 무려 600년이 넘는 역사를 자랑하는 유서 깊은 음식이랍니다. 특히 ‘Quanjude’은 베이징에서 가장 유명한 북경오리구이 전문점으로, 관광객들의 발길이 끊이지 않는 곳이기도 합니다.

점심식사 후에는, 이화원으로 발길을 옮겨보는 것이 어떨까요? 총 290 여 헥타르에 달하는 이화원은 크게 만수산과 곤명호로 나뉩니다. 예술미 가득한 건물, 다리, 탑, 정원 등이 조화롭게 배치된 곳으로, 특히 고색 창연한 건축물들이 시선을 사로잡습니다.

날이 어둑어둑해지면 이국적인 분위기가 물씬 풍기는 호우하이 거리로 자리를 옮겨보시죠. 특히 이곳에 위치한 ‘베드 바’는 하루 동안의 피로를 말끔히 날려버리기에 충분합니다. 호우하이 지역 드럼 타워 뒤편에 위치한 이곳에서는, 맛있는 음식을 먹으며 지인들과 허심탄회한 대화를 즐길 수 있을 뿐 아니라 중국의 골동품 침대에 편히 누워 휴식을 취할 수도 있거든요. ^^

Beijing is a place that gives an impression of a modern city with a strong antique flavor. In this month’s city tour column, Lei Li of Beijing subsidiary takes us on a ride through a city of resplendent cultural heritage, recommending to us sensational attractions to behold.

Beijing Office l 08:30am
Beijing, the ‘city of the dragon,’ is home to all sorts of delicacies. Let us start our tour by having breakfast at the Kangzai restaurant near our office, where you can enjoy Chinese southern traditional food of ‘wonton noodles.’

Tian’anmen Rostrum & The Forbidden City l 09:10am
Afte r breakfast , we head to the Tian’anmen Square. Built in 1417 as the entrance to the Forbidden City, it used to be called the Gate of Heavenly Succession (Chengtianmen), and is one
of the largest squares in the world. In front of the Tian’anmen lies the Forbidden City, which used to be the former Imperial Palace for the Ming and Qing emperors of whom believed themselves to be the most noble beings on Earth.

Qianmen Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant l 12:30pm
Leaving Tian’anmen and the Forbidden City, we head for a Beijing Roast Duck restaurant. Beijing Roast Duck is a must have cuisine to all who visit the city. The dish boasts over 600 years of istory, starting in Nanjing, the capital of the Ming dynasty. ‘Quanjude’ is the most renowned   Beijing Roast Duck restaurants, always packed with tourists who have come for a taste. I would particularly like to recommend ‘Quanjude’ for lunch.

The Summer Palace l 14:00pm
After the meal, we will make our way towards ‘The Summer Palace.’ The Summer Palace occupies a total area of over 290 hectares, divided largely into the Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake. The beautiful former imperial garden is set off by a multitude of highly decorative buildings, halls, pavilions, bridges, towers, islands, and courtyards.

Hou Hai l 19:00pm
With night slowly approaching, we head for the exotic Hou Hai Bar Street. The Bed Bar, in particular, can help you relax your muscles after a long day. Located in ZhangWang hutong behind the Drum Tower in the Houhai district, the bar is full of antique beds where you can eat,
drink, and chat with your friends while relaxing.
