저는 LG전자 태국법인(LGETH)의 Audit & Innovation Manager인 인티라 리앙슈에(Intira Leangchue )입니다. LG전자 태국법인은 1997년 5월에 설립되어 세탁기, 에어컨, 컴프레서, TV 등을 생산, 판매하고 있습니다. 오늘은 태국에 비즈니스 출장을 오시거나 짧은 여행을 하시는 분들을 위한 ‘1일 시티 투어’ 코스를 소개해드리고자 합니다.

방콕 LG지사 근처에 자리잡은 S&P 레스토랑에서 간단한 아침을 하는 것으로 ‘천사의 도시’ 방콕의 시티 투어를 시작하자. 이곳에서는 태국 정통 요리를 맛볼 수 있으며 샌드위치나 커피 등도 즐길 수 있다. 아침식사를 하며 Sukhumvit 거리 풍경을 음미하는 것도 좋은 방법. 방콕의 고급 쇼핑몰이 모여있는 Sukhumvit 거리는 유명한 파타야 해변까지 이어진다.

아침식사를 마친 후에는 택시를 타고 왕궁(Grand Palace)과 에메랄드 사원(Wat Phra Kaew)으로 향한다. 도착하기까지 약 45분이 소요되는 데 요금은 170에서 200 바트(약 6,000~7,200원) 정도다. 입장료는 280 바트(약 1만원). 에메랄드 사원의 공식 명칭은 ‘왓 프라시랏타나삿사다람(WatPhra Si Rattana Satsadaram)’으로 태국에서 가장 훌륭하고 성스러운 사원 중 하나다.

사원 안에는 에메랄드 불상이 자리잡고 있는데, 불상의 역사는 베일에 가려져 있으며, 비취나 벽옥으로 만들어졌을 것이라 추측된다. 바로 옆에 위치한 왕궁은 태국의 가장 유명한 랜드마크로, 태국 왕실의 거주지이자 국회가 있는 곳이다. 이곳을 방문할 때는 옷차림에 특히 신경을 써야 한다. 반바지나 미니스커트, 운동복 등을 입은 사람은 출입이 금지되기 때문이다.

에메랄드 사원과 왕궁을 둘러본 후에는 택시나 툭툭(Tuk-Tuk, 태국의 삼륜차)을 타고 카오산 거리(Khao San road)로 향한다. 이곳에서는 친구들과 가족들에게 선물할 기념품을 고를 수 있을 뿐 아니라 맛있는 점심식사도 즐길 수 있다. 60바트부터 500바트(약 2,100~17,600원)까지 그 비용 또한 천차만별이다. 가장 추천하고 싶은 음식은 톰양꿍(Tom Yum Kung). 톰양(Tom Yum)은 매콤하고 새콤한 육수, 꿍(Kung)은 새우를 의미한다. 팟타이(Pad Tai)도 추천 메뉴 중 하나. 숙주나물, 새우, 닭고기 등이 곁들여진 볶음쌀국수인 팟타이는 꼭 맛보아야 할 태국 전통 음식이다.

햇살이 슬슬 따가워지는 오후가 되면 카오산 거리에서 택시를 타고 마분콩(MBK)으로 이동한다. 태국에서 가장 유명한 쇼핑센터인 MBK에는 태국 전통 기념품부터 최첨단 전자제품까지 없는 것이 없다. 근처에 위치한 시암(Siam) 쇼핑센터와 시암 파라곤(Siam Paragon)을 방문, 각종 브랜드 제품을 둘러보는 것도 흥미진진하다. 이곳은 태국 지상철도(BTS)를 타고 어디로든 향할 수 있어 더욱 편리하다.

날이 저물고 어둑어둑해지면 방콕 심야 바자에 방문해보자. 수안룸 나이트 바자(Suan Lum Night Bazaar)는 밤이 되어야 그 진면목을 보여준다. 이곳은 특히 조루이 인형극(Joe Louis Puppet Play)으로 유명한데, 태국 전통 꼭두각시극인 ‘훈 라콘 렉(Hun Lakhon Lek)’을 관람할 수 있다. 입장료는 900 바트(약 32,000원)로 8시에서 9시 30분까지 1시간 30분 동안 진행된다.출출해지면 근처에서 정통 태국 먹거리나 해산물, 바비큐를 먹는 것도 얼마든지 가능하다.

피곤이 밀려오는 10시. 이젠 돌아가야 할 시간이다. 택시를 타고 Sukhumvit 거리로 되돌아오면 흥미진진했던 방콕 1일 시티 투어도 막을 내린다. 즐거운 여행의 추억을 간직한 채로.

When you visit Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, you should keep in mind the word ‘Sawadee.’ It means ‘hello,’ and will help you feel more comfortable during your tour in the ‘city of the Deity.’ In this month’s business trip column, Thailand Subsidiary Audit & Innovation Manager Intira Leangchue guides us through a one-day city tour, which is sure to be a most memorable experience. Sawadee Bangkok!

08:30 We start our tour of the ‘city of the deity’ with having breakfast at the S&P restaurant near our office (Sukhumvit Soi 26), where you can enjoy authentic Thai cuisine or sandwiches
and coffee. You may also want to appreciate the view of Sukhumvit road, which runs through major high-end shopping malls in Bangkok and leads all the way to the famous Pattaya beach.

09:30 After breakfast, we take a taxi to the grand palace and the temple of emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew). The ride will take about 45 minutes and cost around 170 to 200 baht (5.1 to 6
USD), and the entrance fee will cost you 280 baht (8.4 USD). The temple is known to the Thais as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram and is the most important and sacred temple in Thailand. Within
the temple resides the Emerald Buddha and although not much is known for certain about the history of the statue, many guess that it is not actually made of emerald but rather of green jade
or jasper. Next to the temple is the Grand Palace, the city’s most famous landmark and the residence of the royal family. Visitors are requested to be dressed properly and appropriately
upon entering the grounds. People wearing unsuitable clothing such as shorts, mini-skirts, see-through clothing, sandals, and sweatshirts are not allowed to enter.

12:00 When you finish your visits to both places, take a taxi or a Tuk-Tuk (Thailand’s motorized rickshaws) and head for the Khao San road. You will not only be able to find lots of ouvenirs
for all your friends and family but also have a nice lunch. The price varies broadly from 60 baht to 500 baht (1.8 to 15 USD), but the one I would like to recommend is the Tom Yum Kung. Tom
Yum is characterized by its distinct hot and sour flavors while Kung means prawns. Another recommendable menu is the Pad Tai. A dish of stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, shrimp, and chicken, it is a must eat Thai cuisine.

14:00 From Khao San Road, you can take a taxi to MBK and hide from the heat of Bangkok. MBK is the most famous shopping center in Thailand and the place has everything from Thai handicraft and souvenir to groovy high tech gadgets. After that you can also enjoy other nearby shopping centers such as Siam Shopping Center and Siam Paragon, where many of the brand products are ocated. From here you can easily move to other places with the BTS.

18:00 It is time to pay a visit to the Bangkok night Bazaar. Suan Lum night Bazaar is an ideal place for nocturnal shoppers, and is particularly famous for the Joe Louis Puppet play—Thailand’s only troupe that still performs the Thai traditional small puppet play of Hun Lakhon Lek. The ticket costs 900 baht (27 USD) and the show goes on from 20:00 to 21:30. If you become hungry by any chance, you can enjoy Thai food, seafood, or BBQ at a nearby stall.

22:00 An eventful day has ended and it is time to go back. From here you can easily get back to Sukhumvit road on a taxi, savoring the experience of the trip.
